LoC incidents won’t hurt peace process, Salman Khurshid says

NEW DELHI, Jan 18 (CMC) Further de-escalating tensions, foreign minister Salman Khurshid on Friday said recent incidents are not going to impact the ongoing peace process between the two countries. Suggesting that India is looking favourably at Pakistan's offer for talks to sort out the LoC issue, Khurshid said in Jaipur that there was a "positive content" in the statement that has come from Pakistani foreign minister Hina Rabbani Khar and Pakistani high commissioner to India Salman Bashir.
"It is welcome and it should be getting an appropriate response from our side," Khurshid told reporters.
He said the matter will come up for discussion at the ongoing Congress Chintan Shivir. "Peace process is not going to be undermined by these incidents. We hope that we will find a resolution to all these matters and we have treated the whole issue with great care and the closest attention possible," Khurshid said.
The foreign minuster said India had invested a lot in the peace process.
"And it was done because it is strategically and tactically important for India's role in the world," he added. On the talks offer by Pakistan, Khurshid said, "We are trying to work on it and the prime minister has been trying to ensure things remain in control and our concerns are addressed and situation doesn't deteriorate. All these things have to be kept in mind."
In an interview Bashir had said that despite its own reservations about ceasefire violations by Indian forces, Pakistan was willing to discuss all Indian concerns over the LoC developments, not excluding even New Delhi's demand for investigations into the beheading of an Indian soldier. He still maintained though that it was "not understandable" for Pakistan how could India blame Pakistan for the act without any evidence.
